THE HELSINKI EFFECT brings one of the most important diplomatic events of the 1970s to life in an entertaining and informative way: the 1975 Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE). At the same time, the film shows how this political event still influences world politics today. In this way, the audience experiences a journey through time that remains highly relevant today. Narrated by actor Bjarne Mädel, THE HELSINKI EFFECT celebrates diplomacy as the art of bringing nations together and agreeing on principles that benefit all sides. It highlights the importance of dialogue as the essential foundation for finding solutions for peaceful coexistence: Fifty years ago, the leaders of the superpowers were bitter opponents, yet they still talked to one another. More than ever, this gives the film strong contemporary relevance today.
