Science is meant to be objective: facts instead of emotions.
But a new generation of natural scientists is experiencing how their research is being disrupted by climate change. Instead of discovering the wonders of nature, Maria, a doctor of glaciology, Sebastian, a professor of physical chemistry, and Nana, a molecular biologist, become witnesses to a world in decline. But no one listens to them. What can they do? Rather than retreating into the “ivory tower” of their research, frustrated and powerless, Maria, Sebastian and Nana leave their laboratories and become activists. They feel a responsibility to act — because they carry the weight of the world on their shoulders. THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD is more than a climate documentary. It is a deeply human portrait of three natural scientists who realise that their research alone is no longer enough. In a time of increasing climate disasters, political inaction and social division, the film offers an emotional perspective on one of the most important questions of our time: What does it mean to take responsibility?
