Al Hakawati
Events
For centuries, storytelling has held a central place in the collective memory of the Levant, and the Hakawati was the undisputed master of the evening gatherings. The Hakawati was not merely a storyteller; he opened the gateway to other worlds, building bridges between history and fiction, between reality and legend.
Theater Willy Praml revives this tradition with its Syrian ensemble member Muawia Harb at the NAXOS production house, where he takes on the tales of One Thousand and One Nights. This is anything but a classical reading—this is vibrant popular theatre that sweeps the entire audience along.
A spiritual flight connection between Damascus and Frankfurt am Main. Such an offering within a German cultural institution for an Arab community is rare. For us, it is a joyful step toward opening our theatre to our Arab friends. And of course, everyone who does not speak Arabic and has never smoked shisha is warmly welcome as well.
