naxos.Kino Documentary Film & Discussion e.V.
The volunteer-run naxos.Kino is the only cinema in Frankfurt that screens exclusively documentary films—since 2005, every Tuesday, always from March to November. The program features many award-winning films as well as outstanding productions that are rarely, if ever, shown on the big screen.
The focus lies on films that, through the medium of documentary, reflect the discourse of a diverse and pluralistic democratic society, shed light on backgrounds, and reveal conflicts. naxos.Kino addresses current political and cultural events, ties into anniversaries, and contributes to an ethics of remembrance. The program also includes films about art, music, and theater, and often experiments with combining film with literature, music, singing, and other forms of artistic expression. The aim is to foster a holistic understanding of socio-political issues, art, and culture, to think in contexts, and to open up new perspectives.
No film evening without discussion: after the screenings, a lively space for dialogue emerges, where those interested in art, culture, and history meet with filmmakers and experts—the post-film conversation as a living forum for exchange and opinion-building. This makes the cinema a valued place of encounter and an active cultural player, highly appreciated by its audience both locally and regionally.
