What is real? What is fake? And who decides what an original is?

In the copy-art city of Dafen, thousands of artists paint masterpieces by Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, and Rembrandt day and night. Millions of paintings are sold around the world every year. Filmmaker Stanislaw Mucha takes a humorous and sharp look at originals, copies, and the value of art in a fascinating documentary about creativity in the age of endless reproduction.

In the southern Chinese city of Dafen, millions of artworks are created every day. Thousands of painters reproduce famous works from art history while families live, sleep, and dream among the paintings. A Rembrandt judge for 30 euros, a small van Gogh for 45, Monet’s water lilies for 120, and Rembrandt self-portraits for 150 — even the smile of the Mona Lisa can be bought. More than 10 million paintings leave the studios every year in large shipments to Europe and America.

But who are the people behind these carefully made copies? Told with humor and a unique perspective by Stanislaw Mucha.
