Aysun Bademsoy’s long-term observation of Turkish women football players in Berlin-Kreuzberg turns to the next generation 30 years after the first encounter. Born and raised in Germany, they nevertheless ask themselves: Are we really accepted here? It seems as if a cultural divide still shapes their lives. Looking back to the 1990s, their mothers reminisce about a youth in which playing football created space for emancipation. The daughters’ world stretches between extremes: seemingly free self-presentation on Instagram and at the same time a retreat into Islam as a point of reference and a promise of security. Aysun Bademsoy portrays people who remain in search. Her documentary perspective not only develops a multi-layered portrait of the former football players, but also raises questions about how life paths are shaped across generations.
The film evening takes place as part of the program Remake On Location by Kinothek Asta Nielsen and continues the festival Remake. Frankfurter Frauen* Film Tage. Since its founding, the festival has focused on feminist and queer film history. The anniversary edition in December 2025, titled “Where We Come From, Where We Are Going,” was dedicated to generational relationships in film.
